Kolten loves Dragons and wants to know
EVERYTHING he can
about them.
Kolten has a great sense of humor. Recently while at KFC he
asked for two chicken legs but he told the cashier that he wanted them to come
off of the same chicken.
A few days ago he saw an older woman sitting in
her yard surrounded by cats; he stated laughing and said "It's like looking into
Megan's future."
To learn about Autism visit:
This year Kolten started 4th Grade which
means he was promoted from the Primary School to the
Elementary School and the Elementary School has a stricter
dress code than the Primary. This means Kolten has to wear
jeans to school everyday and he has to have his shirt tucked
in AND sadly it meant the curls had to go!! I was worried
about him going all day with his shirt tucked in because
last year Jake got a calendar mark for not having his shirt
tucked in and wanted to help Kolten avoid D-Hall or
detention every week; so before school we went in to meet
the new Vice Principal of the Elementary School. I explained
to her that Kolten has High Functioning Autism and that I
was afraid wearing his shirt tucked in would be too much for
him. She is a wonderful understanding person and between us we
decided that I would send him to school with his shirt
tucked in and that they would work with him everyday in hopes
that by the end of the year he would be use to the idea.
They would put a note in his file to keep him from getting
in trouble if he was not able to keep the shirt tucked in
for the whole day. He
was with me in the meeting and when we left he said "So,
basically I have to go to school with my shirt tucked in
everyday, but if I "have to go to the bathroom" (he did the
quote signal with his fingers) as soon as I
get to school I can un-tuck my shirt and if anyone says
anything I can say 'It's okay, I'm Autistic, I don't know
any better' Right?" It was clear to me then that he
knew how to play us and after that I have made him
wear his shirt tucked in everyday all day! So far - so good!
